By 10 September 2026, the provider must ensure that the care and support of young people is safe and effective by ensuring that medication is administered and recorded in accordance with organisational policy, current legislation and best practice. To do this, the provider must at a minimum: a) Ensure that all medication is accurately recorded, including administration, stock levels and disposal b) Ensure that medication is administered as prescribed and in accordance with medical instruction and individual care plans c) Ensure that all medication errors are identified, reported, recorded and responded to appropriately This is to comply with Regulation 4(1)(a) of The Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (Requirements for Care Services) Regulations 2011 (SSI 2011/210). 1. To support children and young people to consistently receive safe, high-quality care, the provider should strengthen its quality assurance systems across all aspects of care. This should include but is not limited to oversight and review of care plans and incident recording and reporting. This is to ensure care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: “I benefit from a culture of continuous improvement, with the organisation having robust and transparent quality assurance processes” (HSCS 4.19) and “I experience high quality care and support because staff are supported to continuously improve” (HSCS 4.27)
