1. To support people’s wellbeing and social inclusion, and to enhance their physical and mental health, meaningful engagement should be embedded into everyday practice. Social stimulation should extend beyond planned activities, and staff should receive additional training in dementia care. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: “I can choose to have an active life and participate in a range of recreational, social, creative, physical and learning activities each day, both indoors and outdoors.” (1.25) and "I get the most out of life because the people and organisation who support and care for me have an enabling attitude and believe in my potential". (HSCS 1.6)

2. To support people’s wellbeing and ensure they experience interventions that are safe and effective, if receiving ‘As Required’ medications, protocols should clearly document what steps staff have to take and include what therapeutic strategies should be used before medication is administered. If medication was required, record the outcome and whether the medication was effective. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state: "Any treatment or intervention that I experience is safe and effective". (HSCS 1.24)

1. To ensure staffing levels meet the needs of people living in the service and support better staff deployment, the chosen dependency tool should account for all non-direct care duties when calculating staffing requirements. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: 'My needs are met by the right number of people' (HSCS 3.15), and "My care and support meets my needs and is right for me". (HSCS 1.19)
