1. The service should ensure the young people’s care is provided by a consistent staff team who know the young people and are attuned to their individual needs and have the appropriate mix of skills and experience. This should include but is not limited to, staff rotas that are planned to ensure that young people can be confident that they know who will be caring for them on a day-to-day basis. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: ‘I am supported and cared for by people I know so that I experience consistency and continuity’ (HSCS 4.16)

2. The service should ensure that care plans are accurate, analytical, and SMART and are written from a trauma informed perspective and are easily understood by the young people they are written for. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state that: ‘My personal plan (sometimes referred to as a care plan) is right for me because it sets out how my needs will be met, as well as my wishes and choices.' (HSCS 1.15)

3. The service must ensure the consistent presence of an appropriately qualified and experienced manager within the house to provide guidance and support to the care team and to ensure a positive cohesive working environment and best outcomes for young people. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state that: ‘I experience stability in my care and support from people who know my needs, choices and wishes, even if there are changes in the service or organisation.’ (HCSC 4.15). And is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state that: ‘I use a service and organisation that are well led and managed.’ (HSCS 4.23)

4. The service should ensure that staff supervision is consistent and is provided by the manager with direct responsibility for the service, this should include but not be limited to - the identification of development and training needs - promoting and developing a positive team culture. - Providing a safe confidential environment for staff to share their views. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state that: ‘I use a service and organisation that are well led and managed.’ (HSCS 4.23)

5. The provider should ensure that they review their policies and decision-making procedures regarding recruitment and that matching and impact assessments are undertaken which consider the potential impact of any appointee on young people in the service. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that. ‘I am supported and cared for sensitively by people who anticipate issues and are aware of and plan for any known vulnerability.' (HSCS 3.18)
