Recommendation 1

1. To ensure that children benefit from safely and appropriately recruited assistants, the childminder should ensure that two references are obtained prior to beginning employment in the service. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: 'I am confident that people who support and care for me have been appropriately and safely recruited' (HSCS 4.24).

Recommendation 2

1. To ensure that children benefit from a knowledgeable and skilled staff, the childminder should ensure that assistants access training regularly. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: ‘I experience high quality care and support based on relevant evidence, guidance and best practice’ (HSCS 4.11).

Recommendation 3

1. To promote children's health and minimise the risk of infection, the childminder should ensure all surfaces in the kitchen and nappy change area are clutter free and easily cleaned. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: 'I experience an environment that is well looked after with clean, tidy and well-maintained premises, furnishings and equipment' (HSCS 5.22).
