1. To support improvement, the service provider should ensure that a robust approach to quality assurance, including self-evaluation, is in place and leads to continuous improvement. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: "I benefit from a culture of continuous improvement, with the organisation having robust and transparent quality assurance processes" (HSCS 4.19).
2. To support staff development, the provider should: a) Develop a staff training programme including, but not limited to, child development, understanding children's behaviour and communicating effectively with children. b) Ensure all staff participate in training relevant to their roles. c) Reintroduce processes to encourage staff to reflect on their learning and practice and receive feedback on their performance including performance appraisal. d) Carry out effective monitoring to assess the impact of learning on staff practice and outcomes for children. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: "I have confidence in people because they are trained, competent and skilled, are able to reflect on their practice and follow their professional and organisational codes" (HSCS 3.14).
Conditions of registration
To provide a day care of children service to a maximum of 64 children not yet of an age to attend primary school at any one time.
No more than 16 are aged under 2
No more than 20 are aged 2 to under 3
No more than 28 are aged 3 to those not yet of an age to attend primary school. The outdoor space has been taken into account when agreeing the maximum number of children aged 3 to those not yet of an age to attend primary school. Children must have access to the outdoor space at all times.
The manager will be (100%) supernumerary.
Adult:child ratios will be a minimum of:
Under 2 years 1:3 1:5 1:8 if the children attend more than 4 hours per day or
1:10 if the children attend for less than 4 hours per day
