1. To ensure children's wellbeing and safety, the provider should ensure that the availability, storing and recording of medication is in line with current guidance. To do this they must at a minimum: ensure the relevant policy includes clear guidance on how to manage life saving medication as per up to date guidance ensure the relevant policy includes clear guidance around the review of long term medication as per up to date guidance ensure staff have the knowledge and skill to follow the policy effectively. This is to ensure that the care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards which state that: 'Any treatment or intervention that I experience is safe and effective' (HSCS 1.24).
2. To ensure children are nurtured and supported through their daily experiences, the provider, manager, and staff should ensure that mealtimes are a safe, calm, and meaningful experience that meets the individual needs of children.
This should include, but not be limited to ensuring that:
the lunch time routine in place meets the needs of individual children staff have a consistent approach to supporting all children.
This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that:
‘My care and support meets my needs and is right for me’ (HSCS 1.19) and ‘I can enjoy an unhurried snack and mealtimes in as relaxed atmosphere as possible’ (HSCS 1.35).
1. To ensure children’s safety, the provider, manager and staff should ensure that all staff are knowledgeable and competent in assessing potential hazards and risks and take appropriate action to keep children safe.
This should included but not limited to: • play areas for children are maintained and any potential hazards are reduced immediately or as soon as reasonably possible • ensure all staff are aware of how many children are in attendance at any time • safety measures such as regular head counts are used to ensure that all children move around play spaces safely. This is in to ensure care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standard (HSCS) which state that:
'My environment is secure and safe' (HSCS 5.19) .
