Recommendation 1

1. To promote high quality care and positive outcomes for children and families, the childminder should develop their quality assurance practices. This should include, but is not limited to; a) self-evaluation of practice using recognised tools and frameworks such as ‘A quality improvement framework for the early learning and childcare sectors: Childminding’ (Care Inspectorate, 2025). b) developing approaches to effectively gather the views of children and families to support the development of the service. c) planning for improvement to promote consistently positive outcomes for children and families. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which states that:’ I benefit from a culture of continuous improvement, with the organisation having robust and transparent quality assurance processes.’ (HSCS 4.19)

Recommendation 2

1. To support children’s health, wellbeing and safety the childminder should improve infection, prevention and control practices. This should include, but is not limited to; a) supporting children to wash hands at key times throughout the day, including after eating b) storing cleaning products out of the reach of children c) reviewing and updating policies to ensure they reflect current guidance d) undertaking infection, prevention and control training to improve their skills and knowledge. This would ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state: ‘I experience high quality care and support based on relevant evidence, guidance and best practice (HSCS 4.11).

Recommendation 3

2. To improve outcomes for children and support their continued progression, the childminder should review personal plans with parents at least every six months or sooner if required, in line with legislation. This would ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state: `My personal plan (sometimes referred to as a care plan) is right for me because it sets out how my needs will be met, as well as my wishes and my choices’ (HSCS 1.15).

Recommendation 4

3. To promote children’s health, safety and wellbeing, the childminder should develop their practice in the safe storage and administration of medication. This should include, but is not limited to; a) storing medication safely and out of children’s reach b) establishing 3 monthly reviews of medication in line with guidance c) recording all instances of medication being administered using an appropriate format. This would ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state: ‘I experience high quality care and support based on relevant evidence, guidance and best practice (HSCS 4.11).
