1. To keep children safe and secure the provider should ensure that safe recruitment procedures include but not be limited to receipt of a reference from the candidates previous employer. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which states that: 'I have confidence in people because they are trained, competent and skilled, are able to reflect on their practice and follow their professional and organisational codes.' (HSCS 3.14)

1. To support children’s health, safety and well-being needs, children should be cared for in a secure environment both indoors and outdoors. Robust risk assessments should take place and action taken to mitigate risks to children. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards, which state, 'My environment is secure and safe' (HSCS 5.17).
