Recommendation 1

1. To enable children to benefit from care and support that is right for them, the childminder should review children’s personal plans. These should be meaningful, working documents that support children’s wellbeing and document progress. Personal plans should be regularly reviewed with children and families to ensure information is up to date to reflect children’s current needs, wishes and choices. This will contribute to ensuring each child receives appropriate care and support and their wellbeing needs are met. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state that: 'My personal plan (sometimes referred to as a care plan) is right for me because it sets out how my needs will be met, as well as my wishes and choices' (HSCS 1.15).

Recommendation 2

1. To support children’s wellbeing and promote the continued development and improvement of the service, the childminder should ensure self-evaluation and quality assurance is taking place. This should be well documented, reviewed and monitored over time. This should include but not be limited to: a) ensure risk assessment are reviewed and updated b) ensure policies and procedures are kept up to date. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state that: 'I benefit from a culture of continuous improvement, with the organisation having robust and transparent quality assurance processes' (HSCS 4.19).
