Recommendation 1

1. To support high-quality, individualised care and learning, personal plans should clearly outline how the childminder intends to meet each child’s needs. This includes recording observations of progress, identifying next steps, and involving parents in regular reviews. The childminder should ensure that personal plans for each child are reviewed and updated at least every six months, or sooner if there is a significant change in a child’s health, welfare, or development needs. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: “My personal plan (sometimes referred to as a care plan) is right for me because it sets out how my needs will be met, as well as my wishes and choices.” (HSCS1.15).

Recommendation 2

2. To support children's health and wellbeing the childminder should ensure that all medication administered to children is supported by written parental consent and recorded using the appropriate medication administration forms. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: “Any treatment or intervention that I experience is safe and effective.” (HSCS 1.24).

Recommendation 3

3. The childminder should review and implement safe sleeping practices to ensure that children are safe while asleep. The childminder should familiarise herself with current safe sleeping guidance and ensure that sleeping arrangements allow for direct, physical checks at appropriate intervals. This will help safeguard children . This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: " I experience high quality care and support based on relevant evidence, guidance and best practice.” (HSCS 4.11).
