1. To support children's wellbeing, learning, and development, the childminder should provide a wide range of toys and materials that are age and stage appropriate, and linked to children's current interests. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: 'I am supported to achieve my potential in education' (HSCS 1.27); and 'As a child, my social and physical skills, confidence, self-esteem and creativity are developed through a balance of organised and freely chosen extended play, including using open-ended and natural materials' (HSCS 1.31).
