1. To support positive outcomes for children, the provider should ensure that staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to support high quality experiences. This should include but is not limited to: a) effective quality assurance to identify staff training and development needs b) effective mentoring to support staff to develop skills necessary to promote stimulating, high-quality interactions, play and learning. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which states that: ‘I benefit from a culture of continuous improvement, with the organisation having robust and transparent quality assurance processes’ (HSCS 4.19).

To support children’s wellbeing, learning and development the provider, manager and staff should offer learning opportunities which reflect children’s interests, encourage creativity and allow them to develop lifelong skills. This should include but is not limited to, providing suitable resources and materials to effectively engage and challenge children’s play, learning and interests. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which states that: 'As a child, my social and physical skills, confidence, self-esteem and creativity are developed through a balance of organised and freely chosen extended play, including using open ended and natural materials' (HSCS 1.31); and 'As a child, I can direct my own play and activities in the way that I choose and freely access a wide range of experiences and resources suitable for my age and stage, which stimulate my natural curiosity, learning and creativity' (HSCS 2.27).&n1. To support positive and consistent outcomes for children, the provider should ensure that staff are knowledgeable and competent in relation to providing care and support that reflects children’s needs. This should include but is not limited to, ensuring: a) staff provide children with consistently positive supportive interactions to meet their emotional, social and developmental needs b) management and staff have the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out their roles confidently and competently c) communication supports children and families to feel informed and secure about changes to the service. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which states that: ‘I experience stability in my care and support from people who know my needs, choices and wishes, even if there are changes in the service or organisation’ (HSCS 4.15); and ‘I experie
