1. To improve outcomes for children, the provider should now strengthen planning, observations and next steps across the service. This should help staff to better identify and respond to children’s individual progress, provide greater depth and challenge in learning, and ensure that children’s play and learning experiences are consistently informed by their interests and emerging needs. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state that “I am supported to achieve my potential in education and employment if this is right for me” (HSCS 1.27) and “As a child, my social and physical skills, confidence, self-esteem and creativity are developed through a balance of organised and freely chosen extended play, including the use of open ended and natural materials” (HSCS 1.31)
Conditions of registration
To provide a care service to a maximum of 44 children.
The age range of the children will be from 6 weeks to those not yet attending primary school.
12 children aged 0 to 18 months years (to be accommodated in the back section of the large playroom)
16 children aged 18 months to 3 years (to be accommodated in the front section of the large playroom)
16 children aged 3 years and over and not yet attending primary school (to be accommodated in the small playroom)
Adult: child ratios will be:
under 2 years 1:3 1:5 1:8 if the children attend more than 4 hours per day or
1:10 if the children attend for less than 4 hours per day.
