To ensure that people receive maximum benefit from all medications, the provider should ensure they have the necessary legal documents to support medication administration, and develop clear care plans, sometimes known as protocols, for “as required” medications. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: "Any treatment or intervention that I experience is safe and effective.' (HSCS 1.24)

1. To ensure that people receive a service in line with current best practice guidance, the provider should ensure that policies and procedures are reviewed regularly. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: “I experience high quality care and support based on relevant evidence, guidance and best practice.” (HSCS 4.11)

1. To ensure that people benefit from consistent and person-centred care, the provider should ensure that care plans contain sufficient detail, and where necessary, supporting legal documentation. This should result in person centred care, delivered within legal frameworks. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: “My personal plan (sometimes referred to as a care plan) is right for me because it sets out how my needs will be met, as well as my wishes and choices.” (HSCS 1.15).
