Recommendation 1

1. To keep children safe and ensure their rights and GDPR requirements are fully upheld, leaders should develop and implement robust policies for the safe use of digital devices. These should clearly outline the procedures staff must follow when using digital devices. They should also include, but are not limited to, how staff record, store and share children’s learning and photographs with families. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: ‘I have confidence in people because they are trained, competent and skilled, are able to reflect on their practice and follow their professional and organisational codes’ (HSCS 3.14) and ‘I am protected from harm, neglect, abuse, bullying and exploitation by people who have a clear understanding of their responsibilities’ (HSCS 3.20).

Recommendation 2

1. To continue promoting a safe, clean, and well maintained environment, the service should review and enhance the storage facilities within the nappy changing area. This will help ensure the space aligns with current best practice guidance and supports effective infection prevention and control (IPC). The service should also consider how this area can be further developed to create a calm and nurturing space for children. This is to ensure I experience a high quality environment and is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state, ‘I experience an environment that is well looked after with clean, tidy and well maintained premises, furnishings and equipment.’(HSCS 5.24) and ‘My environment is safe and secure.’(HSCS 5.19).
