1. To promote consistent high-quality practice the service should ensure that quality assurance and self-evaluation processes are further developed. This should include the monitoring of medication, personal plans, risk assessments, mealtimes and children’s experiences. These should be meaningful, evaluated and highlight the impact on outcomes for children and families. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: ‘I benefit from a culture of continuous improvement, with the organisation having robust and transparent quality assurance processes’ (HSCS 4.19).

1. To promote consistent high-quality care, the service should further strengthen infection prevention and control practices, with a focus on embedding effective hand hygiene routines. This should include ensuring staff and children consistently follow handwashing procedures at key times, alongside improvements to personal care, food handling, and nappy changing environments. Monitoring processes should evidence sustained improvement and impact on outcomes for children. This is to ensure care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state: ‘I am protected from infection because staff take appropriate precautions’ (HSCS 1.35) and ‘Any treatment or intervention that I experience is safe and effective’ (HSCS 1.24).
