1. The provider should ensure planned improvements to the kitchen are progressed which should include reviewing the layout, fixtures, fittings and equipment to ensure the kitchen is modern, functional, easy to clean and well maintained. Improvements should take account of how the space supports people’s independence, preferences and overall experience within the service. A clear action plan with defined timescales and responsibilities should be implemented to ensure improvements are achieved and sustained. This ensures care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards, which state: ‘I am able to access a range of good quality equipment and furnishings to meet my needs, wishes and choices’ (HSCS 5.23) and 'I experience an environment that is well looked after with clean, tidy and well-maintained premises, furnishings and equipment.' (HSCS 5.24).
