1. To promote high aspirations for children and their families and support the childminder in providing a service that is well led, the childminder should develop a vision, values and aims. This should be inclusive of children and families’ views. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: ‘I am actively encouraged to be involved in improving the service I use, in a spirit of genuine partnership’ (HSCS 4.7).
2. To support positive outcomes for children and families, the provider should develop their quality assurance processes. This should include, but is not limited to:
• updating children’s personal plans to ensure they meet their current wellbeing needs, wishes and support strategies.
• reviewing and implementing current guidance to ensure policies and procedures are reflective of the service • developing policies to support the effective management of the service.
This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that:
‘My personal plan (sometimes referred to as a care plan) is right for me because it sets out how my needs will be met, as well as my wishes and choices’ (HSCS 1.15); and ‘I benefit from a culture of continuous improvement, with the organisation having robust and transparent quality assurance processes’ (HSCS 4.19).
3. To support positive outcomes for children and families, the provider should develop their approach to self-evaluation and improvement. This should include, but is not limited to:
• becoming familiar with best practice guidance to support them to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that:
‘I use a service and organisation that are well led and managed’ (HSCS 4.23).
1. To support children’s health and wellbeing, consistency of care and safe sleep the childminder should review safe sleeping practice and take account of current safe sleeping guidance. This should include, but is not limited to: • the use of a travel cot or sleep mats to enable children to rest and sleep safely. This is to ensure care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: ‘My care and support meets my needs and is right for me’ (HSCS 1.19) and 'I experience high quality care and support based on relevant evidence, guidance and best practice' (HSCS 4.11).
2. To support children's reduced risk of cross infection and positive intimate care, the childminder should ensure that appropriate personal protective equipment is used and they use an appropriate changing facility. This should include, but is not limited to: • using a wipeable and easily cleaned changing surface. This is to ensure care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: 'If I require intimate personal care, this is carried out in a dignified way, with my privacy and personal preferences respected' (HSCS 1.4) and 'If I require intimate personal care, there is a suitable area for this, including a sink if needed' (HSCS 5.4).
