Recommendation 1

1. To promote good practice and outcomes for people, staff should have access to regular reflective supervision which promotes professional development. To do this, the provider should, at a minimum: a. ensure staff have the opportunity for regular reflective supervisions and routine appraisals b. ensure supervision and appraisal discussions, and any actions identified, are clearly documented c. ensure a system is developed and implemented for monitoring staff supervision and appraisals. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: 'I have confidence in people because they are trained, competent and skilled, are able to reflect on their practice and follow their professional and organisational codes' (HSCS 3.14).

Recommendation 2

2. To ensure people experience care and support from a service which has a culture of continuous improvement, the service should develop and implement a framework of quality assurance processes which cover all areas of service delivery. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: 'I benefit from a culture of continuous improvement, with the organisation having robust and transparent quality assurance processes' (HSCS 4.19).

Recommendation 3

1. The provider should ensure that staffing levels and skills mix within the service are clearly documented, and determined by a process of continuous assessments, informed by an evaluation of the care service, it's physical environment and feedback from people and staff. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: 'My needs are met by the right number of people' (HSCS 3.15); and 'People have time to support and care for me and to speak with me' (HSCS 3.16).
