Recommendation 1

1. To support high quality provision and positive outcomes for children the childminder should develop their quality assurance practices. This should include but is not limited to: a) Be familiar with and use guidance to support good practice and self-evaluation to promote consistently positive outcomes for children. b) Regularly gather feedback from parents/carers and children to help identify areas for improvement. c) Self-evaluation against current supporting guidance to identify areas of strength and where improvements will promote positive experiences and outcomes for children. d) Record planned improvements and assess their effectiveness in achieving improved experiences and out1. To support children’s learning and development the childminder should ensure children’s learning is documented, assessed and planned for. This should include but is not limited to: a) observations of learning, shared with parent/carers b) identification of next steps in learning for children c) planning of learning focused on children’s individual learning needs. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which states that: 'As a child, my social and physical skills, confidence, self-esteem and creativity are developed through a balance of organised and freely chosen extended play, including using open ended and natural materials' (HSCS 1.31).
