1. To ensure that people always benefit from adequate levels of staffing the provider should; a) maintain oversight of adequate staffing levels and deployment in all departments b) ensure this includes peak times and where people may need additional support c) have contingency staffing plans where there is longer term absence gaining feedback from people and staff. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS), which state: ‘My needs are met by the right number of people’ (HSCS 3.15) and ‘I am confident people respond promptly, including when I ask for help’ (HSCS 3.17).
1. By 30 October 2025 the provider must ensure that there are sufficient numbers of staff deployed with the right skills and knowledge to support people at all times. To do this, the provider must, at a minimum: a) Consider the needs of people using the service and demonstrate how the outcome of people’s assessments are used to inform staffing numbers and arrangements. b) Take into account the layout of the building, agency staff, staff breaks, and other staff duties and assess how this may impact staff’s ability to provide timely and effective support. c) Recognise where higher levels of support are required at peak times in the day, such as in the mornings and at mealtimes. d) Consider ways in which feedback from people using the service, their families and staff could be used to influence staffing arrangements. This is to comply with: Se1. By 10 November 2025, to ensure people are supported well, the provider must ensure that care plans and risk assessments are accurate, up to date, and provide clear guidance for staff to meet people’s needs safely. To do this the provider must, at a minimum:
a) carry out regular reviews of care plans in line with legislation, ensuring they reflect people’s current needs, and maintain a clear record of when these reviews are completed b) ensure timely updates to care plans and risk assessments when people’s needs change c) communicate any changes in people’s needs clearly and promptly to all relevant staff d) use care plan audits to ensure information about people is accurate and that any issues identified are addressed effectively.
This is to comply with Regulation 5(1)(2)(Personal Plans) of the Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (Requirements for Care Services) Regulations 2011 (SSI 2011/210)
1. To ensure that people are engaged, stay connected and involved in their community, the provider should ensure there are opportunities for people to participate in a range of activities that suit them throughout their day. This should include but not be limited to physical exercise and meaningful activities both indoors and outside. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: ‘I can choose to have an active life and participate in a range of recreational, social, creative, physical and learning activities every day both indoors and outdoors’ (HSCS 1.25).
2. To ensure people’s health and wellbeing is supported, the provider should ensure that protocols for all 'as required' medications are clear and accurate to guide staff. Providers should ensure staff use processes in place to identify quickly where a person may not have had medication administered. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: ‘Any treatment or intervention that I experience is safe and effective.' (HSCS 1.24)
1. To ensure people benefit from oversight and continuous improvement, the provider should ensure all audits are in line with organisational guidance with improvements identified and actioned. This should include but not be limited to, clinical and care governance, dependency information and reviews. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which state that: 'I benefit from a culture of continuous improvement, with the organisation having robust and transparent quality assurance processes' (HSCS 4.19).
1. To ensure people benefit from high quality facilities the provider should assess the environment and promptly action any issues identified. This should include but is not limited to, clean flooring, provision of accessible baths, wayfinding signage and access to outside space which meets people’s needs and wishes. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which states that: ‘I am able to access a range of good quality equipment and furnishings to meet my needs, wishes and choices' (HSCS 5.21).
