1. To support people’s health and wellbeing, the provider should ensure the safe and correct storage of medication in people’s bedrooms. This should include, but is not limited to, ensuring that storage drawers have clean and unbroken surfaces and that opened medication bottles and creams have an opening date written on them. It should also include exploring options for using lockable cupboards that allow bottles to be stored upright to avoid leakages. This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the Health and Social Care Standards (HSCS) which states that: ’The premises have been adapted, equipped and furnished to meet my needs and wishes’ (HSCS 5.16).
