Investigation and inquest
On 08/10/2015 commenced an investigation into the death of Jeff Miles, 57 The investigation concluded at the end of the inquest on 15/09/2016. The conclusion of the inquest was to record that Mr Miles's death came about as a result of Industrial Disease. For a period of 13 years Mr Miles was employed by You in fashioning wire for insertion into thermometric devices. During the course of his employment Mr Miles would have digits almost permanently coated in white spirit and was exposed to white spirit vapour: Mr Miles occupational exposure to white spirit resulted in his developing a fatal Scleroderma_
Circumstances of the death
The deceased had a history of pulmonary fibrosis and systemic sclerosis, pulmonary hypertension and small airways obstruction. He was exposed to white spirit during previous occupation_
Action should be taken
In my opinion action should be taken to prevent future deaths and believe you Amphenol Thermometrics (UK) Ltd have the power to take such action; believe you should review any continuing use of white spirit.
