The Department values the contribution that international teachers make to our schools. We want to make it easier for qualified teachers from overseas to teach in England. To make it easier for qualified teachers from overseas to teach in England, in February 2023 the DfE launched a new online service ‘Apply for qualified teacher status in England’. The service enables eligible qualified teachers from overseas to easily apply for QTS in England and has streamlined the application process, making it simpler and faster. The Department continues to work with international organisations and governments to promote teaching in England and provide information and support to international teachers. We are working with UK Visas and Immigration to raise awareness of the various visa options available to teachers wishing to teach in the UK. We also encourage schools to consider sponsoring international teachers, particularly in shortage subjects.
