The Department recognises the value that returning teachers can bring to the profession. Returners are eligible for the same bursaries and scholarships as other graduates, depending on the subject they train to teach. We will continue to promote routes back into teaching, such as the Return to Teaching website, and encourage schools to provide support and mentoring for returners. We are also working with the sector to develop resources and guidance for returners, to help them update their skills and knowledge and feel confident in the classroom. We also continue to explore opportunities to make it easier for teachers to return to the profession, including through flexible working and other support.
