Recommendation 13

13 Acknowledged

Committee conducted urgent scrutiny of Children's Wellbeing Bill under government timetable constraints.

Conclusion
We have worked at pace on the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill to contribute to fulfil our scrutiny role within the parameters set by the Government’s timetable and increase transparency for the benefit of the House and, we hope, those who will be affected by the legislation. We are particularly grateful to those young adults who gave evidence to us on their lived experience of the care system and have reflected their voices in this Report. We have tested the Bill’s provisions with stakeholders and policy experts and produced this Report with the aim of assisting the House at Report stage and Third Reading. (Conclusion, Paragraph 67)
Government Response Summary
The government expresses gratitude for the Committee's support, engagement, and the contributions of policy experts and stakeholders, acknowledging their work on the Bill and looking forward to further engagement.

HM Government Acknowledged
Government response to Conclusion twelve and Recommendation two: We are grateful for the continued support from policy experts and stakeholders who have advised the Department, provided Oral and Written Evidence, and given evidence to the Committee. We note that the Chair of the Education Select Committee welcomed assurances on these amendments from Ministers during the Report Stage of the Bill in the Commons. We also thank the Committee for their engagement since the Bill was introduced. This includes a ministerial call on introduction day in December 2024 and a meeting between policy officials and Education Select Committee members on 7th January 2025 before the Second Reading of the Bill on 8th January to discuss the Bill and any concerns members may have had. We look forward to further engagement with the Committee on this landmark legislation as the Bill progresses through the Second House, and to delivering manifesto commitments.
