The government's response
Summary written by Accountability Index from the government's response. It is not the government's own words.
The Government responds to each of the Committee's nine recommendations on defence diplomacy, setting out ongoing work to professionalise the Global Defence Network and stating that its response shows "remarkable effort is being delivered".
- On the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Government "agrees with the HCDC recommendation" for a single point of contact in the GREAT campaign and "will take steps to ensure" one.
- On updating doctrine, it says specific policy changes and updates to the related sub-strategies will be refreshed "over the following 12 months".
- On Defence Attaché careers and training, it says three workstreams are under way, including professionalisation, a training needs analysis and a finance and governance review. On language training, wider use of FCDO facilities is "being investigated".
- On military educational institutions, it "note[s] the recommendation and share[s] the Committee's assessment", and says the Defence Academy and Royal College of Defence Studies are "launching a new alumni platform in the Spring".
