Introductory session with the National Armaments Director

Status: Closed Opened: 27 Nov 2025 Closed: 8 May 2026
Inquiry scopeIntroductory session with the National Armaments Director In this one-off session the Committee will examine the roles and responsibilities of the recently created National Armaments Director (NAD) and the National Armaments Director Group (NADG). Since 1 April 2025, the Ministry of Defence has been restructured to operate under four groups, known as the Quad, consisting of: a department of state responsible for policy, strategic direction, and overall outcomes and delivery; a Military Strategic Headquarters, focusing on force design and delivery of the Armed Forces; the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE), uniting all defence nuclear activity including the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) and AWE; and, the National Armaments Director Group, combining Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), Defence Digital and other parts of Defence including commercial, international collaboration and exports. The session will focus on a range of topics, such as budgeting, equipment delivery and in-service support; as well as examining the relationship between parts of the Quad, including how resources flow through the ‘Invest, Readiness and Operate’ functions - of which the NADG is responsible for the Invest element.
