We recommend that the Government reinstate support for opening school sports facilities to communities, but that it do so through a long‑term, place‑based funding model, learning lessons from the experience of the Opening School Facilities Fund. The new programme should be locally informed, include clear sustainability and lifecycle cost requirements, and be aligned with wider community sport and health strategies to ensure lasting impact and value for public money.
