Academics at Sheffield Hallam University told us that “The impact of Transforming Rehabilitation (TR) has been disastrous for the retention of staff and experienced staff”. They explained that “the departure of a generation of qualified and experienced staff including Probation Officers and Probation Services Officers … who could not accommodate the changes resulting from TR and chose to exit probation work”. 376 (A Probation Services Officer (PSO) supervises low- and medium-risk offenders while a Probation Officer (PO) also supervises higher-risk offenders.)
