Recommendation 19
19
Paragraph: 124
The better approach is to incentivise offenders.
Conclusion
The better approach is to incentivise offenders. Deferred sentencing can be used to encourage offenders to engage with probation, rewarding positive behaviour in the deferred sentence. Various initiatives have been or are being piloted to create incentives for low-level, repeat offenders to engage with more intensive rehabilitative activities.
