Conclusion
The Office for Investment together with the new Business Growth Service should: a. ensure there is a single front door for accessing the full range of their services; b. conduct an annual survey of business to evaluate the products offered by the four public finance institutions and determine whether the right products are being offered at the right scale. It should use this survey evidence to specify where it believes there are gaps in the public product set; c. publish clear pathways to help firms understand what they can access from the four public finance institutions, and how handoffs between these institutions work in practice; and d. ensure that named staff in each of the four public finance institutions can advise on how to hand off firms to each other at the appropriate stage of a firm’s investment journey.
