Over time the UK banking sector has become heavily concentrated and centralised. There may be good business reasons for this evolution, but the result is reduced business access to finance and banking services. Businesses in UK regions are less able to secure finance, pay more when they do, or are more prone to becoming discouraged from seeking the external finance that could help them grow faster.
