Conclusion
We are deeply disappointed that The Walt Disney Company declined our invitation to give oral evidence, and to engage meaningfully with our inquiry. The Walt Disney Company has a responsibility to demonstrate that none of their actions supported oppression or undermined human rights during the production of Mulan. The Walt Disney Company still has many questions to answer, particularly in relation to concerns about whether it completed adequate risk assessments and put in place sufficient safeguarding measures during the production of Mulan in Xinjiang, and why it refused to answer questions before our Committee. Correspondence continues between the Committee and The Walt Disney Company. (Paragraph 33) UK Government action- the next steps
Government Response Not Addressed
HM Government Not Addressed
The Government would like to thank the Committee for setting out its recommendations to businesses (recommendations 1–5). The Government would also like to thank the businesses that that provided written and oral evidence to support the Committee’s report. It has been incredibly helpful to hear what businesses have to say about the issue of forced labour in UK supply chains, and the UK government is committed to helping to ensure UK organisations are neither complicit in nor profiting from the human rights violations in Xinjiang.
