We are concerned that the Government’s process for recruiting the Chair of the CMA appeared to lack clear objectives for managing the risk of a diminished focus on competition and consumer protection; the need to demonstrate independence from political interference; weak implementation of the powers created by the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024; and inadequate supply of time from the Chair.
