Conclusion
We are concerned about the abuse of R&D relief, which has increased due to exploitation of the tax repayment available under the SME scheme. We note the Government’s commitment to tackling this abuse but we agree with our witnesses that there is a risk that, with the creation of the R&D intensive scheme, new opportunities for spurious claims could be created.
