Conclusion
We accept that other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) could have an important role to play in meeting 30 by 30 and make a positive contribution to the current set of designations. This is particularly important given the current considerable gap between land that is sufficiently protected and the 30 by 30 target. However, we are concerned to see that there are thus far no OECMs in England and there is slow progress in setting out their potential role, and a lack of guidance as to how they could be established.
