Too many local planning authorities do not have an up-to-date local plan.
Recommendation
Too many local planning authorities do not have an up-to-date local plan. Given the importance of local plans in balancing ambitions for development and the need to protect the environment, the Government should ensure that all local planning authorities have the necessary resources and information to produce a plan. It should explore legislative or legal routes to enforce the requirement for a local plan.
