Conclusion
We heard that relocating public services with a high number of regular visitors to a town centre could increase footfall in that area and was likely to have knock-on benefits for local businesses. 272 For example, redirecting some journeys to work or health care settings to local high streets could have a positive knock-on effect for businesses in the area. In Poole, the town centre, which has been curated by a single landlord, has an NHS outpatients centre as well as a library and charity spaces. Councillor Slade said that this had “completely reinvigorated the town, despite the fact that only about a third of the space is retail”. 273
