Increased standardisation in major project design offers cost savings but needs sufficient investment scale.

Conclusion
The IPA told us that increased standardisation of design of some projects can be a helpful way to learn and apply what has worked well. Such an approach can bring cost savings and improve learning. However, this brings with it challenges because the programme of investment needs to have the scale to make it cost- effective to apply the process of standardisation.21
