When considering the design of the Skilled Worker visa route, the Home Office told us it is important to have the best sectoral workforce analysis and get the balance right between the domestic labour market and migration. It also acknowledged the need to reflect government policy on net migration.14 The Home Office has drawn on the work of the Migration Advisory Committee, which undertakes independent labour market analysis, when considering the need for potential changes to Skilled Worker visas.15 It has also engaged with departments to try to understand the likely levels of demand and skill needs across different sectors.16
