Conclusion (the committee's words)
We received correspondence from the Institute of Physics and the Particle Physics Action Group expressing significant concerns about the impact of this.43 When we raised it, UKRI told us that STFC’s costs for its planned activities are no longer affordable within its budget. UKRI’s management is now engaging with the research community to understand what activity it might slow down, mothball and stop. It views this process and the decision on the funding allocation as rational and reasonable management steps.44
