Conclusion
Many Members of Parliament have had representations from constituent businesses about the impact of the new steel tariffs.73 We asked how the Department is assessing whether tariffs are working to protect UK steelmakers without imposing undue costs elsewhere in the supply chain.74 The Department said it intended its measures to only apply to types of steel produced in the UK. It blamed businesses for incorrectly assuming measures apply to all imports, and said it could not help businesses who find it difficult to secure supply from UK manufacturers.75
