Recommendation 7
7
A Bill of Rights should be designed to strengthen, not weaken human rights protection.
Recommendation
A Bill of Rights should be designed to strengthen, not weaken human rights protection. We see no real case for changing the HRA and little benefit of a rebranding exercise. What might be preferable is more political leadership in championing respect for human rights as a core part of our constitution and values. The Government should consider very carefully whether there is a compelling case for substantial reform, given the upheaval, legal uncertainty and cost that a new Bill of Rights would involve.
