The government should place AISI on a statutory basis.
Recommendation
The government should place AISI on a statutory basis. AISI should have the power to review new and revised powerful AI models. It should also have a duty to assess, publish findings pre-release, and issue preliminary ‘warning’ statements associated with release of new AI foundation models. To avoid duplication, the government should consider combining the existing functions of the AISI with those of the new regulator. (Recommendation, Paragraph 231)
