Life Sciences and the Industrial Strategy

The government welcomes the Committee's report and states that many of its recommendations have been "superseded by Government action", while declining to set up a single new governing body or a statutory Office for Industrial Strategy.

• On governance, the government says it "strongly agrees" that a strategic partnership with the sector is crucial, and points to the Life Sciences Council it has established for this purpose.
• It does not accept a single Life Sciences Governing Body, stating that the Council will play "a large part" of that role and that "setting up another body would be duplicative".
• On a new statutory Office for Industrial Strategy, it says this "would therefore be duplicative", pointing to a planned independent, non-statutory Industrial Strategy Council.
• On a specific commitment, it states it "will invite a senior HM Treasury representative to join the LSC". It adds that the next phase of implementation priorities will be announced "later this year".
