Select committee: Industry and Regulators Committee

Recommendation 57

1st Report - The affluent and the effluent: cleaning up failures in water and sewage regulation Published 22 Mar 2023 Paragraph 339
Recommendation (the committee's words)
The Government should make water metering compulsory for all households and businesses where it is possible to do so. In introducing compulsory metering, the sector should clearly communicate the benefits of metering to customers. Given the low levels of trust in water companies, the Government should proactively set out its view that the public should reduce its water consumption, both in the national interest and in order to reduce consumer bills.
