Select committee: Industry and Regulators Committee

Conclusion 45

1st Report - The affluent and the effluent: cleaning up failures in water and sewage regulation Published 22 Mar 2023 Paragraph 282
Conclusion (the committee's words)
While financial structures are usually a matter for company boards, water companies’ monopoly role in providing an essential service means that a higher standard should be demanded, especially in a sector of such importance to households and the environment. We support Ofwat’s increased interest in the financial structures of water companies and wholly support its proposals to amend licenses to ensure that dividends are linked to performance and companies are financially resilient.
