HM Government Acknowledged
The Government is also looking to the future of our pensions system. Automatic Enrolment has been a success with 9 out of 10 eligible employees saving into a workplace pension, but future generations of pensioners face uncertainty because we know some will have incomes that are too low, risks that are too high, and a system that is too unequal. We know that some of today’s workers are not saving enough towards a pension or not saving at all: women, younger people, low-earners, self-employed. That’s why we have established the Pensions Commission to look at the long-term questions of adequacy and retirement outcomes. This is alongside the Government’s plans to support good work and higher employment - because by boosting the incomes of today’s workers we will be supporting them to save for their retirement.
