Recommendation 23
23
Accepted
Include non-consensual intimate image abuse in VAWG definition and identify prevalence data.
Recommendation
The Government should ensure that NCII abuse is included when creating a common definition of VAWG, as part of its mission to reduce it by 50% within the next decade. It should also identify what data can be used to measure the specific prevalence of NCII, as part of that mission. (Recommendation, Paragraph 112)
Government Response Summary
The government accepts the recommendation, confirming that non-consensual intimate image abuse is included in its definition of VAWG and will be part of the new cross-Government Strategy. It is also working with the ONS to improve the Crime Survey for England and Wales to include data on intimate image sharing.

HM Government
Accepted
Accept Tackling VAWG that takes place online and/or is facilitated through technology, including non-consensual intimate image abuse, falls under the Government’s definition of VAWG. This will be an important part of the new cross-Government Strategy, which will be published later this year. The best measure of VAWG is prevalence as reported through the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW). We are currently working to improve the questions asked about sexual assault1 in the CSEW. Part of this research looks to include crimes introduced in new legislation, such as intimate image sharing. The ONS are currently in the testing phases of these improvements with the hope to add these onto the survey in the near future.
